Austria: 2023/24 season started today with lot of upsets! 3 points for Hypo Tirol, Hartberg, Ried, Graz and Klagenfurt

Powerfusion Volley League started today, on Saturday 30th September!
In the opener, VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt celebrated a straight sets win against VBC TLC Weiz, struggling only in first set, partially 27:25, 25:15 and 25:11, led by Noah Neunhoeffer, top scorer of the game with 15 points. Mark Kremer scored 13 on the losing side.

Another success fot Supercup winner HYPO TIROL volleyball team, who celebrated celebrated a 3-0 (25:17, 27:25, 25:17) home win against VCA Amstetten NÖ. The team from Innsbruck only had some problems in the second set when they wasted a 22:16 lead. The hosts’ top scorer were Luan Weber (14) and Arthur Nath (10), who made his return in April after an Achilles tendon injury, while Samuel Jackman scored 14 points for Amstetten.

The third game of the evening also ended in just three sets. UVC McDonald’s Ried needed 89 minutes to leave the court as with a straight sets win (25:22, 25:17, 26:24) on the field of TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien. In the third set the home team led 20:14 and also wasted a set point.

TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg also celebrated a four sets win on the road, on the field of Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel in the Stadthalle Zwettl (25:20, 25:18, 21:25, 25:21). Hartberg’s top scorers were Djordje Knezevic (16) and Lukas Glatz (15), while URW newcomers Krzysztof Gulak (14) and Niklas Stooß (13) were the most prolific player on the losing side.

In the Raiffeisen Sportpark Round 1 concluded with the clash between hosts UVC Holding Graz and last season runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob. The home team celebrated a clear straight sets win, partially 25:21, 25:21 and 25:20, without major problems, led by Benedikt Sablatnig (19), Johannes Kratz (14) and Arwin Kopschar (13), both of whom former players of Aich/Dob last season.
In the runner-up team, only one player, newcomer Kristof Horvath, ended the game in double digit scoring 11 points.

Eight powerfusion VL teams will play again this weekend, in first round of the Austrian Volley Cup on Sunday. And the big match is the clash between VBK Wörther-See-Löwen and UVC Holding Graz!
