Austrian Cup: all results of Round 1 – Klagenfurt stun Graz!

After the new season’s start yesterday, today also first round of 2023/24 Austrian Volley Cup has been played.
The big match of the day was undoubtedly the one between VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt and UVC Holding Graz.
Both sides started the Powerfusion Volley League on Saturday with a clear home win – over VBC TLC Weiz and runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, respectively. And, surprisingly enough, it was Klagenfurt to celebrated a 3-1 (26:24, 25:15, 14:25, 26:24) home win.

All easy for defending champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team needed only 48 minutes against Raiffeisen VC Wolfurt to progress to the second round (25:14, 25:14, 25:11), and the same did SK Zadruga Aich/Dob against VC Hausmannstätten, celebrating a clear straight sets win (25:15, 25:12, 25:14) too.
Victory in three sets also for Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel (25:19, 25:18, 25:19) on the field of Raiba Aschbach-Waidhofen/Ybbs.
Second division team SPORTUNION z+p St. Pölten narrowly missed a big upset after wasted a 2-1 lead against VCA Amstetten NÖ, but eventually surrendering at tie break (25:22, 18:25, 25:17, 17:25, 10:15)
In the last two games of the day, the Bundesliga sides were clearly superior: UVC McDonald’s Ried against Oberndorf (25:15, 25:14, 25:13) and TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien in the derby against Roadrunners Wien (25:20, 25:17, 25:23).
