Just one day since the last game of Round 1, mid-week Round 2 of 2023/24 Plusliga started today with first three games, two of them ended at tie break!
In the first one, KGHM Cuprum Lubin wasted a 0-2 lead on the field of PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów, who was able to close the game afrer a sensational comeback 3-2 (23:25, 25:27, 29:27, 25:16, 15:10), after 162 minutes of play.
Despite losing the initial two sets 23-25 and 25-27, the winners, as many as super favorite of the game, showed great resilience, turning the tide in their favor.
The next three sets were clinched 29-27, 25-16, and 15-10, demonstrating their mettle.
Dawid Konarski, top scorer and named the match’s MVP, led the team’s scoring with 21 points to his name (1 block, 1 ace and 54% in attack), closely followed by Bartłomiej Lipiński with 18 and Adrian Aciobanitei with 16.
Jake Hanes was particularly impressive for Lubin with 18 points to his name, but to make the difference were also the performance in blocking, with Bełchatów who scored 14 points from this element, against 5 of the rivals.
The day continued with the four sets home win of Jastrzębski Węgiel against Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, 3-1 (25:27, 25:20, 25:17, 25:12), a contest that began with a nail-biting first set in which the visiting side just managed to edge out the rivals 27-25.
However, despite this setback, the Polish champions regrouped themselves and dominated the subsequent three sets, showing their prowess in attack, serving, and blocking. Standout players included Jean Patry and Rafał Szymura who scored 19 points each, as many as MVP of the match Tomasz Fornal who also contributed with 17 points through 54% in attack, 1 block and 2 aces, while Alan Souza and Moritz Karlitzek put up a good fight for Olsztyn with 20 and 14 points, respectively.
Close the picture a game that started on Tuesday, at 9pm, and ended on the day after, more precisely at 12.04am!
This is the one between Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and PSG Stal Nysa, closed only at 24:22 of the fifth set! Partially it was 23:25, 21:25, 25:21, 25:22 and, as mentioned above, 24:22!
ZAKSA, after facing a daunting 0-2 set deficit, managed to stave off a match point at 17-18 in the fifth set and, after a marathon of 9 match points, they triumphed led by a great Bartosz Bednorz, who stood out with a 25-point performance through an impressive 72% in attack (including 1 block and 1 ace), earning him the MVP award. Aleksander Śliwka and Łukasz Kaczmarek were also decisive in this victory with 20 and 18 points respectively while, on the other side of the net, Remigiusz Kapica matched Bednorz’s scoring (45% in attack and 6 of his team’s 9 aces).
Round 2 continued on Wednesday with other 2 games, on Thursday with other two and it will be closed on Friday with the last one….
