Italy: Round 3 is over. Civitanova down Perugia at tie break in big match, Piacenza to the top, Modena ko and the others…

After the advance played yesterday, on Saturday, in which Cisterna Volley defeated an Allianz Milano penalized by injuries in just three sets, Round 3 of italian 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca has been closed today.

In big match of the day, just a couple of days after the final of Del Monte® Supercoppa, Civitanova and Perugia find themselves facing each other again, at the packed Civitanova’s Eurosuole Forum and in front of 3,157 spectators!
And just like the Supercup final, the challenge ended at tie break, but this time with a different epilogue.
In fact, the hosts Civitanova won at tie break, partially 20:25, 35:33, 25:21, 16:25 and 22:20, led by a super Adis Lagumdzija (32 points, 60% in attack, 3 blocks and 2 aces), not by chance named MVP of a game lasted as many as 2 hours and 49 minutes.
Tunisian Wassim Ben Tara closed his match with 28 points for Perugia (53% in attack, 4 blocks and 1 ace).

About the others, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza celebrated the third victory in straight sets in as many games against newcomers Farmitalia Catania, 3-0 (25:17, 33:31, 25:17).
Balance only in the second set, in wbich the hosts managed to cancel six set points, but they did it, also without injured Yuri Romanò and with Yoandy Leal on the bench. Decisive Brazilian Ricardo Lucarelli, top scorer of the game with 13 points, supported by Gironi with 12, the same number of points of Paul Buchegger, in Catania’s jersey.
At Taranto’s PalaMazzola, first win for Pallavolo Padova, who won
at tie break (22:25, 25:15, 25:20, 18:25, 16:18) after a very long game with lot of ups and downs in both sides. Davide Gardini was named MVP of the game with 16 points and 50% in attack for the winners, while Gutierrez, top scorer of the match, put down 20 balls (50% in attack) for Taranto.
On the other hand, first seasonal defeat for a bad Valsa Group Modena against Vero Volley Monza. The game ended in just three sets, in what was a one-sided game, 0-3 (19:25, 19:25, 19:25), after 1 hours and 17 minutes of play.
MVP of the match Canadian Arthur Szwarc, with 18 points, well supported by Ran Takahashi and Stephen Maar, who also contributed with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
One-sided game and clear away win also for Trento who, in the evening, easily defeated Verona with the score of 0-3 (18:25, 17:25, 15:25).
The thousandth game in the history of Itas Trentino allows the team coached by Fabio Soli to keep the unbeaten record in SuperLega so far, as well as the victory number 694 of all time, at the end of a sumptuous performance, in which they were able to led the game from start to finish.
Great protagonist of the match was setter Riccardo Sbertoli, who also contributed with 5 aces and awarded MVP, while Alessandro Michieletto scored 15 points through 56% in attack and 5 of the winners’ 13 winning blocks in just three sets.
