Poland: ZAKSA and Gdańsk open Round 6 with 3 points. Gdańsk temporarily to the top!

Round 6 of 2023/24 Plusliga started today with first two scheduled games.
Despite the absences and lot of injuries, CEV Champions League champions Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle managed to down GKS Katowice with the score of 3-1 (28:26, 25:15, 21:25, 25:23), after a nail-biting first set and after 1 hours and 57 minutes of play.
MVP of the match USA National Team middle blocker David Smith with 17 points to his name, 3 aces and as many as 93% in attack (14/15!), but decisive were also Bartosz Bednorz, top scorer with 22 points (58% in attack, 3 aces and 4 blocks) and Łukasz Kaczmarek, who also contributed with 19.
Nothing to do for Katowice, despite Marcin Waliński’s efforts (absolute top scorer among his teammates with 20 points, 59% in attack and 4 winning blocks).
With this victory, the winners reached the 5th place in the standings with the same number of points of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, who will play on the field of Projekt Warszawa tomorrow, while Katowice remain second-to-last still winless and with only one point, earned in Round 4 after a defeat on the field of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
Not a good start for PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów, who suffered their 4th defeat in 5 games played, relegated only at 13th place in the current charts with just 4 points.
To celebrate this evening was a great Trefl Gdańsk, able to close their away game with the score of 1-3 (24:26, 26:28, 25:20, 16:25), after two exciting first two sets until the decisive 16:25 that closed the game. Decisive Kevin Sasak and MVP Mikołaj Sawicki, who scored 23 points each, the second including all 7 aces of his team!
Thanks to this result, the team from Gdańsk reached the top of the standings, at least, temporarily, with 16 points and -1 from Projekt Warszawa and Jastrzębski Węgiel, who will face last-placed Enea Czarni Radom on Thursday.
