Austria: Round 8 – Hartberg and Hypo Tirol remain undefeated! Victory also for Sokol and Aich/Dob

Defending Champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team struggled more than expected at the start of Round 8 of Powerfusion Volley League on the field of VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt, as they needed four sets to beat the current last-placed of the current standings, 23:25, 25:21, 25:15, 25:22.
The Innsbruck side even had to recover from 10:17 without brazilian bomber Luan Weber, but then they came back and led 23:22.
However, the last three points in the first set went to the hosts. After that it was a very balanced game, at least, until the 16:16, when HYPO TIROL was able to take the decisive lead, that remained until the end of the game.
Top scorers of the match were Simon Frühbauer and Ben Stockhammer who scored 13 points each among the hosts, while Pedro Frances with 17 points, Arthur Nath and Mihkel Varblane (14 each) were the most prolific players for the winners.
Runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob secured their third 3-0 win in a row by beating UVC McDonald’s Ried without major problems 25:17, 25:20, 25:17 at their the JUFA Arena, thus overtaking the rivals and claiming the fifth place in the standings.
Kristof Horvath with 14 points and Angelos Mandilaris who also contributed with 12 were the top scorers for the winners, and Tomasz Rutecki (12) and Borys Zhukov (9) for Ried.
On Wednesday Aich/Dob will play on the field of AONS Milon Nea Smyrni in the CEV Cup Round of 16, in Athens.
VCA Amstetten NÖ continues to look for success, as they suffered a bitter 2-3 (12:25, 19:25, 25:23, 25:23, 9:15) defeat in their home game against TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien, having now just four points in their account. Top scorers of the game Samuel Jackman (23) and Kirill Krasnevski (12), and Jakub Kocvara (31) and Aaron Reiss (20) for the team from country’s capital, who played without injured Raphael Trauth.
In the last game of the day, current leaders TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg continued their successful run: in the derby against VBC TLC Weiz, who staged a remarkable comeback from 19:24 in first set, they eventually managed to win the game 3-0 (26:24, 25:12, 25:22). Top scorers were Đorđe Knezevic (16) and Lukas Glatz (14) for the winners, and Ulve Steidl (14) and Mark Kremer (13) on the other side of the net.
Round 8 will end on Sunday evening, at 6.30 p.m., with the big match between UVC Holding Graz and Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel.
The third place team has one point more than the rivals!
