Italy: Modena struggled but won at tie break on the field of Taranto. Perugia ok in advances of Round 8

In a thrilling start of 2023/24 SuperLega Credem Banca Round 8, Modena and Perugia emerged victorious in their respective matches, earning 2 and 3 points, respectively.
At Taranto’s Palamazzola, Valsa Group Modena overcame the hosts Gioiella Prisma Taranto in a dramatic tie-break, securing a hard-fouught 2-3 victory (22:25, 25:20, 25:18, 17:25, 13:15).
MVP Maksim Sapozhkov led Modena with an impressive 25 points to his name, while Filippo Lanza scored 16 points for Taranto, who saw the debut of Ljubo Travica as new head coach.
Despite the tight contest, Modena’s resilience in the tie-break secured them the win against a rival that is still searching for the first seasonal win.
In the evening, Sir Susa Vim Perugia defeated Cisterna Volley by 3-1 (25:16, 25:19, 20:25, 25:23), with setter Simone Giannelli named MVP of the match.
Wassim Ben Tara and Oleh Plotnytskyi each scored 17 points, also decisive in current Superlega leaders’ success, while Kamil Semeniuk added 14 (all in attack with 82%), and Flavio 10.
Also numbers awarded the winners, better than the rivals in positive reception (49% to only 27%), in attack (56% to 45%), and in blocking (11 to 7). Cisterna’s Theo Faure led his team with 19 points, well supported by his teammates Bayram (12) and Peric (11), but it wasn’t enough to overcome Perugia’s dominance.
