Italy: Piacenza and Civitanova win the advances of Round 13

Round 2 of second leg of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca, or Round 13, started today with first two games.
Last season runners-up Cucine Lube Civitanova redeemed themselves after elimination from Del Monte Coppa Italia by beating Pallavolo Padova in just three sets (25:19, 25:17, 25:23) at their Eurosuole Forum in front of 1.746 home fans, keeping the fifth place in the standings behind Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, who today defeated Milano at tie break.
Padova started better at the very beginning of first set and, with Gardini from the service line, signed the 2-4. However, the hosts were able to recover, with a great performance in blocking and counterattack, with a clear 19-14 scored by Anzani, until the decisive 25-19, after an error from Gabi Garcia. At the end of this set, Civitanova closed with 62% of team performance in attack, against 48% of the rivals while Nikolov was top scorer with 6 points through 75% in attack (6/8).
Same story also in second set, with the hosts who fly from 14-14 20-14, thanks to Zaytsev, who put down an attack and 3 blocks. The set will end 25-17, with 7 points from the same Zaytsev, well supported, again, by Nikolov who added 6 through 60%.
Third set started with Civitanova who put down the ball of 11-6 even if Padova recovered twice, first on 15-14, and then, from 21-18 to 22-22 thanks to a fault of Lagumdzija from the second line, followed by an cui segue un ace from Falaschi. But it wasn’t enough as Nikolov, well deserved named MVP of the match with 17 points, put down the decisive ace of 24-22, while Zaytsev (15 points for him at the end of the match) closed 25-23.

Italia Quarterfinals, played just 72 hours ago, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza managed to down Allianz Milano, without Piano and Ishikawa, at tie break (25:23, 21:25, 19:25, 25:19, 15:13).
The hosts had to recover in all sets, including the fifth one, in which Milano had a 5-8 advantage, but eventually managed to win, led by Lucarelli, top scorer Recine (22 points for him at the end of the match), two aces in a row from Romanò and, above all, to MVP Simon, author of 14 points including the one that closed the game.
With this result, Piacenza fly to the second place of the current charts, waiting for tomorrow’s game between Sir Susa Vim Perugia and Vero Volley Monza.
