Italy: Round 13 is over – Another defeat for Modena. 3 points for Verona, Trento, Perugia and Cisterna

4 min read

After two advances played yesterday, won by Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Cucine Lube Civitanova, Round 13 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca, Round 2 of Second Leg, has been completed today with the other four games.
Defending Champions Itas Trentino secured another three-set victory, this time in an away match, after the decisive 3-0 win at home against Verona on Wednesday evening and the consequent Semifinal of Del Monte Coppa Italia.
Today they won at PalaMazzola in Taranto, achieving the twelfth success in thirteen games played in SuperLega, and as many as the fifth match in a row without dropping a single set to the rivals!
Partially it was 23:25, 20:25 and 20:25.
The hosts Gioiella Prisma Taranto, second to last in the standings, tried to threaten their opponents several times, recovering from significant disadvantages in the first and third sets and starting strong in the second. However, Trento never lost clarity, demonstrated greater effectiveness at the net with attacks (58%) and blocks, and closed each set without major problems. The middle blockers were decisive: 3 winning blocks and 83% in the first half for Jan Kozamernik, a block and a perfect 100% (8/8!) for captain Marko Podrascanin, while the high ball trio also made a significant contribution: 14 points for Kamil Rychlicki, unstoppable in the first set, 10 for Daniele Lavia (crucial in the decisive acceleration in the second set), and 9 for Michieletto, named MVP of the match with 50% success rate in attack, a block, and an ace.
Not a good time for Valsa Group Modena, who suffered another heavy defeat, 0-3 (21:25, 18:25, 13:25), this time against Rana Verona, and the fourth straight sets defeat in a row counting all competition, including the last one, on Thursday, on the field of Sir Susa Vim Perugia in a game valid for Del Monte Coppa Italia Quarterfinals.
For Verona, on the other hand, this was the fifth win in a row in Superlega and, above all, they managed to win in Modena for the first time since 2019!
And they did it thanks to a great 58% of team performance in attack, 55% in reception and a great performance from MVP Amin Esmaeilnezhad, author of 18 points and 1 ace. Double digit also for Donovan Dzavoronok, who added 10 points, and captain Rok Mozic, with the same number of points, including the one that closed the game, and 3 winning blocks.
All easy also for Sir Susa Vim Perugia, who down Vero Volley Monza (whithout starting setter Cachopa) in straight sets too (25:21, 25:21, 25:21) to continue their positive winning streak to regain the second place in the standings.
Decisive attack and blocking, with 60% of team performance and 6 winning blocks, while MVP award went to setter Simone Giannelli.
Oleh Plotnytskyi and Kamil Semeniuk collected 30 points in two, with 75% in attack for the first one, well supported by opposite Herrera, who alsl contributed with 11 and middle blocker Flavio and Solè, who put down the ball that closed the game.
Close the picture the very important win of Cisterna Volley, who down newcomers and last-placed Farmitalia Catania with the score of 3-1 (25:21, 25:18, 22:25, 25:22), led by top scorer and MVP Theo Faure, author of 21 points, well supported by Jordi Ramon, who added 18.
