Coppa Italia: Milano fought but Perugia won at tie break and join Monza to final!

After the great win of Mint Vero Volley Monza over Superlega’s leaders and Italian defending champions Itas Trentino, also the other semifinal of 2023/24 Del Monte® Coppa Italia concluded in a decisive fifth set: Sir Susa Vim Perugia triumph over Allianz Milano, 3-2 (20:25, 25:23, 25:15, 23:25, 15:11).
In a breathtaking clash at the Unipol Arena in Bologna, Perugia emerged victorious over a combative rivals, securing their place in the tomorrow’s Grand Final.
Decisive players for the winners included Wassim Ben Tara with 21 points through 60% in attack and 3 blocks, closely followed by Oleh Plotnytskyi who added 19 through a remarkable 75% attack success, and Sebastian Solè who also contributed with 7 of his team’s 14 block points.
Milano, under the guidance of head coach Roberto Piazza, also put up a formidable fight, notably with Yuki Ishikawa’s consistent support. Despite early serve errors, Perugia’s resilience shone through as they recover from a first-set defeat and a Milano comeback in the fourth set.
The fifth set saw Perugia’s great defense, while blocking play a crucial role in sealing their victory.
Perugia’s coach, Angelo Lorenzetti, praised his team’s courage and acknowledged the need for continued improvement.
Meanwhile, Roberto Piazza from the losing side commended his team’s effort and believed a slight lack of experience in crucial moments was a deciding factor.
Perugia now advances to face Mint Vero Volley Monza in the final, marking their seventh appearance in the competition’s decider.
The final, is scheduled tomorrow at 3.45pm local time, and promises to be an exciting conclusion to this edition of Del Monte® Coppa Italia!
