Coppa Italia: Monza down Trento at tie break to become first finalist!

In an exciting 2023/24 Del Monte® Coppa Italia SuperLega first semifinal, a super Mint Vero Volley Monza eliminated Champions of Italy Itas Trentino after a thrilling game ended in five sets, partially 23:25, 25:13, 23:25, 25:23 and 15:9, at the Unipol Arena in Bologna, securing their first-ever appearance in the Coppa Italia Grand Final!
Standout performances from Eric Loeppky, top scorer with 21 points through 55% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, Gianluca Galassi and Arthur Szwarc, who added 16 points each (71% in attack with 3 winning blocks and 3 aces for the second one), led Monza to the victory.
Despite Itas Trentino’s 13 blocks and Kamil Rychlicki’s 21 points, they fell short, particularly missing a crucial opportunity in the fourth set.
After losing first set with the minimum gap, Monza’s strong start in the second set and a fierce comeback in the fourth set were decisive, overcoming Trentino’s initial leads. The tie-break saw Monza in dominant form, concluding with a serve error from Trentino’s Daniele Lavia.
Monza now will face super favorite Sir Susa Vim Perugia, now at second place in Superlega behind the same Trentino, who down Allianz Milano with the same result.
The game witnessed as many as 7,562 volleyball fans. Post-match, Monza’s Marco Gaggini highlighted the team’s collective belief and enthusiasm, while Trentino’s coach, Fabio Soli, expressed disappointment and pondered on the team’s unfulfilled potential.
