Italy: straight sets win for Verona, Milano and leaders Trento in advances of Round 17

3 min read

Round 17 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 6 of second leg, started today with first 3 games, all ended in straight sets.
In the first one, Rana Verona celebrated a 3-0 (25:19, 25:23, 25:20) home win over Pallavolo Padova in the derby of Veneto region.
First part of the game was a battle, with the hosts able to put their foot down on the accelerator in the middle of the set.
And then MVP Noumory Keita made the difference, scoring 24 points at the end of the match through 60% in attack. Decisive also the performance from the service line, with Luca Spirito and captain Rok Mozic able to score 3 aces apiece.
Despite the absences of captain Matteo Piano, who who underwent meniscus surgery on Friday, and Matey for a muscle problem, Allianz Milano down last-placed Farmitalia Catania 3-0 (26:24, 25:19, 25:17) too.

The match has two very distinct parts and, after a first set ended overtime after an intense half hour of play and a very balanced start to the second set, Catania gets lost in too many unnecessary errors and collapsed under the play of the hosts.
The block count says 10-7 (4 by Vitelli and 5 by Loser) in favor of a Milano able to close the game after one hour and 21 minutes of play in front of over one hundred of Japanese, who arrived in Italy specifically for a tour organized to follow their captain Yuki Ishikawa, author today of 9 points.
At Monza’s Opiquad Arena, leaders Itas Trentino celebrated their 16th win in 17 Superlega games by beating the hosts of Vero Volley Monza with the score of 0-3 (17:25, 17:25, 17:25), to fly, at least temporarily, at +6 from Sir Susa Vim Perugia that will play tomorrow on the field of Gas Sales BluEnergy Piacenza. The winners played a great game not only in attack, with 62% of team performance with only 3 errors, but also from the service line, with 7 aces, and blocking, with the same number of points from this element. MVP and top scorer of the match Alessandro Michieletto with 18 points to his name including 2 winning blocks, 2 aces and 67% in attack, well supported by Kamil Rychlicki, who added 13 through 69%.
Tomorrow the others and, in addition to the clash between No.3 Piacenza and Perugia (even if the two sides have 8 point difference), Cucine Lube Civitanova will face Valsa Group Modena in an Italian classic, while Gioiella Prisma Taranto will face Cisterna Volley.
