Challenge Cup: Monza down Galatasaray to become first finalist!

After the triumph in 2022 CEV Cup and a final in 2019 Challenge Cup, another European final for Mint Vero Volley Monza, chasing their second European title in club’s history.
In second leg of semifinals, after dominating first leg against Galatasaray HDI Istanbul, they won the game in Turkey with the score of 2-3 (16:25, 20:25, 25:21, 25:22, 12:15).
After dominating first set, Monza won also the second one after just 46 minutes of play to celebrate the qualification for final act of the competition, with 16 points each for Loeppky (including 4 aces) and Mujanovic, and 13 from Maar.
On the Galatasaray side, Hadrava stood out with 18 points, followed closely by Mijailovic’s 17.
In final they’ll face the winners between Projekt Warszawa, who destroyed Akaa Volley in Finland in first leg , and will face tomorrow, on Wednesday, February 7, the same rivals in Poland.
Gianluca Galassi of MINT Vero Volley Monza shared his thoughts post-match, emphasizing the significance of the win and the team’s focus on the upcoming challenges: “It was the result we wanted, even if maybe not in five sets,” he said.
“We are very happy. Now we will have a very complicated period between the championship and the European final: now a bit of rest because we want to arrive in the best way to the match on Saturday against Piacenza.”
