Italy: Trento and Monza win advances of Round 18 – Catania and Piacenza ko

3 min read

Round 18 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 7 of second leg, started today with first two games.
The day started with a battle between the hosts Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Mint Vero Volley Monza, ended 2-3 (21:25, 25:19, 23:25, 25:20, 11:15) in favor of the visiting team, just like in first leg!
For the players around head coach Eccheli, two very important points to confirm themselves at 7th place, while Piacenza, who played another game with lot of ups and downs, wasted an occasion to consolidate third place.
Monza started the game better by winning first set, but then suffered the hosts’ comeback in second and fourth one. MVP of the match, just like in first leg, Canadian Eric Loeppky, author of a very good performance with 23 points to his name, well supported by his fellow countrymen Stephen Maar (18) and Arthur Szwarc (13, including the one that closed the game).
On the other side of the net, the 22 points from Yuri Romanò, were not enough, and not even the other players in double digit: Yoandy Leal (17), Ricardo Lucarelli (15), and Robertlandy Simon (12).
No upsets in second game of the day, in which leaders Itas Trentino celebrated a clean 0-3 (15:25, 20:25, 17:25) win on the field of last-placed Farmitalia Catania.
This was their 9th win in which they earned three points and the 17th in a row in Superlega, and the consequent +9 to their closest pursuers Perugia, who tomorrow will face Verona in front of their home fans.
Better in all elements, today the players around head coach Fabio Soli made the difference in blocking, scoring 12 points from this element, despite a good performance of top scorer on the losing side Paul Buchegger, author of 18 points.
MVP of the match Alessandro Michieletto with 12 points, while Kamil Rychlicki added 16 through 56% in attack. Turnover in second part of the game, with Wout D’Heer who contributed with 6 points, 75% in attack and three blocks, and Giulio Magalini, who closed the game.
Round will close tomorrow with last four games.
In addition to Sir Susa Vim Perugia – Rana Verona, Gioiella Prisma Taranto will welcome Cucine Lube Civitanova, Pallavolo Padova will face Allianz Milano and, in a very interesting clash for 8th place and to enter playoff zone, Valsa Group Modena (at 9th place with 19 points in the standings) will welcome No.8 Cisterna Volley (now with 22 points).
