Italy: Round 20 is over – Milano stop Verona! Trento, Perugia and Civitanova ok

4 min read

After two advances played yesterday, in which Vero Volley Monza down Farmitalia Catania, while Piacenza suffered a heavy home defeat against Taranto, Round 20 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 9 of second leg has been closed today.
Trento triumphed over Modena with a 3-0 (25:22, 25:17, 25:22) victory, officially claiming the top spot in the Regular Season standings reinforcing their dominance in the league.
Interestingly, this was their 8th success in regular season in 24
years of club’s history, and the last one was in 2015, after 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2008 and 2004.
In four occasions, they also won the title: 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
Either way, the one against Modena was Trento’s 11th win in a row in Superlega, despite a better start for Modena, who even took a 13-16 lead in first set.
Allianz Milano showcased their dominance against Rana Verona, who came to Milano with 10 win in last 11 games, with scores of 25:20, 25:23, and 25:16, still without Matey Kaziyski, on the bench, but with 4 players in double digit: top scorer Yuki Ishikawa, with 14 points to his name, 13 for MVP Marco Vitelli, 12 for Osniel Mergarejo, and 11 also for Ferre Reggers.

A gripping match between Cucine Lube Civitanova and Cisterna Volley went the distance, ending 3-2 in favor of the hosts (23:25, 20:25, 25:17, 25:18, 15:11).
After being 2 sets down, Civitanova grew up closing the game with 58% in attack, 8 aces and 6 winning blocks, while Cisterna replied with 55% in attack, 6 aces and 7 winning blocks.
Top scorers Adis Lagumdzija with 22 points to his name together with Cisterna’s Theo Faure and Pavle Peric, but MVP award to Maron Yant, author of a stellar performance in attack with 14 points through 86%, with 1 block and 1 ace, well supported also by Mattia Bottolo, who also contributed with 20 points.
Pallavolo Padova, who already celebrated their stay in Superega also in the next season, faced a challenging match against Sir Susa Vim Perugia, resulting in a 0-3 loss. Despite a strong start, Padova couldn’t match Perugia’s intensity, falling in just three sets (17:25, 21:25, 23:25).
With the Regular Season nearing its end, teams are gearing up for the playoffs, setting the stage for more thrilling volleyball action in the Italian elite volleyball.
