Italy: Round 21 is over. Modena to playoffs at 8th place. Trento and Perugia 1st and 2nd. The others will be decided in the last Round!

With Round 21 (Round 10 of 2nd leg) of 2023/24 Superlega Credem Banca closed today, top 8 who will compete in playoffs has been determined.
To the top, a goal already achieved a couple of rounds ago, Itas Trentino, who today suffered a painless defeat on the field of Sir Susa Vim Perugia, that sits firmly to the second place, 3-1 (27:25, 25:20, 22:25, 25:17).
Supported by almost 5.000 home fans at their PalaBarton, Perugia was able to stop the series of the rivals’ 11 wins in a row, a winning streak that continued since December 10, with the ko in Modena.
The hosts were better above all in attack and blocking, with 59% of team performance against Trento’s 47% and with 11 winning blocks with 11 to 6.
MVP of the match opposite Wassim Ben Tara who played a stellar game closed with 26 points through 70% in attack, 4 aces and 3 blocks, but double digit also for Oleh Plotnytskyi (17 points through 55% in attack), and 9 points for Roberto Russo with 80% in attack.
On the other side of the net the most prolific player was Gabriele Nelli, who replaced Kamil Rychlicki and author of 16 points through 56% in attack, with 1 block and 1 ace.
Regular season leaders will face Valsa Group Modena in playoffs quarterfinals best-of-five series for 5th time in history, after 2003 (when Modena won at Game 5), 2006 (2-1 for Trento), 2008 (2-0 for Trento) and 2014 (2-0 for Modena).
The two clubs also played a final, in 2015, won by Trento and two semifinals, in 2011 and 2016, and they have 84 official games played!
With the four sets win over already relegated Farmitalia Catania, 3-1 (20:25, 25:22, 25:15, 25:12), Valsa Group Modena secured today their spot to playoffs. MVP and top scorer of the game Tommaso Rinaldi, who scored 21 points. Double digit also for Osmany Juantorena and Vlad Davyskiba who added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
In a direct clash for third place, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza won in just three sets on the field of Cucine Lube Civitanova – 0-3 (21:25, 27:29, 22:25), led by top scorer Yuri RomanĆ² with 13 points, Edoardo Caneschi, who added 11 including 4 aces, and Ricardo Lucarelli, with 11 too. Adis Lagumdzija and Aleksandar Nikolov were the most prolific players among the hosts with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while libero Leonardo Scanferla was named MVP of the game.
Now Civitanova can still regain third place or defend the fourth one as, in last Round of regular season, will play a direct clash on the field of Rana Verona will Piacenza will play the derby against already No.8 Modena.
With Piacenza at No.3 now with 40 points in the standings, Civitanova at No.4 with 37, three teams follow them with 36 points: Rana Verona, who today won on the field of Cisterna Volley in straight sets (22:25, 19:25, 26:28) despite the hosts canceled three match points in third set but eventually succumbed to the rivals, led in score by MVP Noumory Keita (author of 21 points), Mint Vero Volley Monza, who won yesterday on the field of Pallavolo Padova in four sets, and Allianz Milano, victorious today on the field of Gioiella Prisma Taranto, with the score of 1-3 (29:27, 22:25, 14:25, 21:25).
Still without injured Matej Kaziyski and Matteo Piano, another libero earned MVP award today, Damiano Catania, while opposite Ferre Reggers closed the game as top scorer with 23 points for the winners.
In the last round that will play entirely next Sunday, Verona will face Cucine Lube Civitanova for an eventual third place, Monza will welcome Cisterna Volley, who firmly sit at ninth place, while Milano will face Perugia, already cemented at second place.
