2 min read

In an exciting start of semifinal matches in 2023/24 PlusLiga, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Jastrzębski Węgiel each took significant steps towards the final.
The first one, second in regular season, won on the field of No.3 Projekt Warszawa 0-3 (24:26, 16:25, 25:27) in their Game 1, led by Mateusz Bieniek who left the court with 18 points to his name through 67% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, supported by MVP Bartosz Kwolek and Karol Butryn who added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Despite efforts from Bartłomiej Bołądź, Kevin Tillie, and Artur Szalpuk, each scoring 12 points for the team from country’s capital, it was not enough to secure a win or at least one set.
In another semifinal match, defending champions and regular season winners Jastrzębski Węgiel edged closer to another final appearance after a hard-fought (32:30, 21:25, 28:30, 25:22, 10:15) victory on the field of No.4 Asseco Resovia Rzeszów.
Jean Patry, who was named MVP of the match, scored a remarkable 29 points including 5 aces, 2 blocks and 50% in attack, leading his team to a well-deserved success, while Tomasz Fornal and Rafał Szymura also made significant contributions with 19 and 14 points, respectively.
Torey Defalco was the most prolific player among the hosts scoring 22 points, but his efforts were ultimately insufficient to secure a win for his team.
Meanwhile, PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów secured 9th place in Plusliga despite a 2-3 (18:25, 25:22, 25:22, 16:25, 9:15) defeat on the field
