France: newcomers Cannes down titleholders Saint Nazaire at tie break in first game of 2024/25 season!

2024/25 Marmara Spike League started today with the advance of first Round between newcomers Cannes (as well as champions of France 2020/21, and then relegated in the following season), and last season winners Saint Nazaire, who defeated titleholders Tours in final last spring.
In an exciting opener of new season,
Cannes managed to take their first win only after five sets, 3-2 (22:25, 25:23, 18:25, 25:10, 15:13).

In front of almost 1000 home fans, who celebrated their team’s return to France’s elite competition, Reda Haikal was named MVP of the match with 24 points to his name through 56% in attack, 1 winning block and 5 of his team’s 7 aces, but double digit also for Marco Pierotti and Lukas Demar, who added 16 and 14, respectively.
Titouan Halle scored 18 points for defending champions.
Round 1 will continue tomorrow with other four games: the derby between Plessis Robinson and Paris, Poitiers will face Narbonne, Tourcoing will
welcome Chaumont while last season runners-up Tours will welcome French supercup winners Montpellier.
On Sunday Nice will face Toulouse while, after the withdrawal of Nantes due financial issues, Sète have a dayoff.
