After the advance played yesterday, in which newcomers Cannes prevailed at tie break over titleholders Saint Nazaire, first round of new Marmara Spike League 2024/25 continued today with other 4 games.
The day started with the straight sets win of Paris in derby on the field of Plessis Robinson, with a triple 22:25.
Despite a slightly better performance in attack, a better match start and 17 points from top scorer Kristaps Platacs (62% in attack and 2 winning blocks), the hosts weren’t able to snatch a single set. To led the charge for the winners three players in double digit: Nik Mujanovic and MVP Daniel Wetter (63% in attack, 1 ace and 3 winning blocks) with 13
points each, and Rok Bracko, who added 11.
Away straight sets win also for Supercup winners Montpellier over last season runners-up and renewed Tours, 0-3 (22:25, 23:25, 16:25).
Surely a great star for players around head coach Loïc Le Marrec, led today by Dimitar Dimitrov, who left the court as top scorer with 14 points to his name including 2 aces, 3 winning blocks and 43% in attack who celebrated a well-deserved win also in front of almost 3000 volleyball fans at Salle Grenon.
Three points also for Poitiers who,
after losing first set, managed to win their first home game over Narbonne, with a thrilling 3-1 (24:26, 25:23, 25:20, 26:24) after 2 hours and 10 minutes of play.
Dusan Nikolic led the charge with an impressive amount of 29 points through 57% in attack, with 2 aces and 2 winning blocks, while Thibaut Thoral (68% in attack and 1 block) and Olympic champion Earvin Ngapeth also contributed with 16 each.
Aaro Nikula scored 19 points for the losing side.
Close the picture the victory of Tourcoing over Chaumont, 3-2 (25:21, 20:25, 25:21, 18:25, 15:11), with 22 points from Pablo Koukartsev, for the winners, and 23 for top scorer Niko Suohkonen, for Chaumont.
