After the advance played yesterday, in which Alterna SPVB Poitiers finally have a win to celebrate after a four sets win at Narbonne Arena, Round 4 of 2026/27 Alterna Volstar continued today with other 5 games and a clear message from the teams at the top: Spacer’s Toulouse are not slowing down!
The unbeaten side claimed another three points away at Montpellier, while Tours produced the most emphatic performance of the evening, sweeping Plessis-Robinson in just three sets. Cannes also made an important statement by defeating Paris, as Nice returned to winning ways against struggling Sète. Straight sets win also for Tourcoing over Saint Nazaire.

Toulouse had to work hard to preserve their perfect start, eventually overcoming Montpellier 3-1 (34:32, 25:22, 24:26, 25:18). The opening set was the highlight of the evening, with both teams fighting through an extended battle before the visitors finally prevailed 34-32. Toulouse then moved two sets ahead, but Montpellier refused to surrender and edged a close third set 26-24 to keep their hopes alive. The leaders, however, regained control in the fourth, closing out the match 25-18.
It was another demonstration of Toulouse’s ability to find solutions in difficult moments. Having already defeated Sète, Saint-Nazaire and Cannes in their opening three matches, they now have four wins from four and remain the only team with a perfect record. Titleholders Montpellier, meanwhile, have suffered their second defeat of the campaign and remain on three points.
With this result, today’s winners sit alone to the top with 12 points, at least until tomorrow, when Chaumont will welcome Royan.

Tours were even more convincing at home, dismantling Plessis-Robinson 3-0 (25:14, 25:15, 25:17). The hosts controlled the match from the beginning, leaving their opponents with very little room to respond. The margin was particularly striking in the first two sets, with Tours conceding just 29 points combined. After their dramatic five-set defeat in Royan last weekend, the Tourangeaux delivered exactly the kind of performance they needed to remain among the early contenders. They now have nine points from four matches, while Plessis-Robinson remain on four.

Cannes also enjoyed a valuable straight-set victory, defeating Paris 3-0 (27:25, 25:23, 25:20) in a contest that was much closer than the final score suggests. The first two sets were decided by the smallest of margins, with Paris unable to turn promising situations into a lead. Cannes held their nerve in both closing phases before gaining greater control in the third to complete the sweep. The result is particularly significant given Paris’ encouraging start to the season: the capital’s side had collected six points from their first three matches, but leave the Côte d’Azur without adding to their tally. Cannes, meanwhile, move forward after a difficult defeat in Toulouse and strengthen their position in the upper half of the standings.

Nice also had reason to celebrate, beating Arago de Sète 3-0 (28:26, 25:22, 25:20). The opening set was crucial: Sète came close to taking an early lead, but Nice managed to win the decisive points in a tense 28-26 finish. The hosts then gradually took control, closing the second 25-22 and the third 25-20. For Brice Donat’s team, it was an important response after last weekend’s painful defeat at Tourcoing, where Nice had led by two sets before losing 3-2. Sète, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table without a single point after four matches. Their search for a first victory is becoming increasingly urgent.

The evening’s final result saw Tourcoing continue their positive momentum with a 3-0 away win over Saint-Nazaire (25:18, 25:19, 25:23). After recovering from two sets down to beat Nice in Round 3, Tourcoing showed a different kind of strength this time, taking control early and maintaining their advantage throughout the match. Saint-Nazaire, who had finally celebrated their first victory of the season against Poitiers last weekend, were unable to build on that breakthrough. The visitors took all three points and confirmed their growing confidence, while the hosts were left with two points from four matches.

With one match still to be played on Saturday, the standings are beginning to take shape. Toulouse lead with a perfect 12 points from four games, while Chaumont, who have played one match fewer, remain on nine. Tours and Tourcoing have also reached nine points, with Paris on six and Cannes moving to eight after Friday’s win. At the other end of the table, Sète remain without a point, while Saint-Nazaire and Montpellier will be looking to rediscover consistency.
The round will conclude on Saturday evening when Chaumont welcome Royan. The leaders’ closest challengers will have the opportunity to return to the top of the standings, while Royan will be hoping to build on their encouraging start to the season.
