Austria: all results of Round 7 – again no changes in the standings!

4 min read

Round 7 of 2024/25 Powerfusion Austrian Volley League has been completed today with Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel who easily won the Lower Austria derby on the field of VCA Amstetten NÖ very confidently with a clear 3-0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:18). It was the third victory for the 2022 double winners, and with ten points they remain close to the top teams of the current charts, while Amstetten is at eighth place.
In the second round, the home team led 12:4, but lost their clear lead before the decisive phase.
Top scorers on Sunday in the Johann-Pölz-Halle were Balazs Bibok (19), Paul Sernow and Balint Kecskemeti (8 each) for the home team, and for the winners MVP Niklas Stooß scored 15 points, Korel Kowalewski 8, Damian Baran, Krzysztof Gulak and Zachary Palankai-Omoshebi 6 each.
On Saturday, defending champions and current leaders HYPO TIROL volleyball team, their closest pursuers UVC McDonald’s Ried and TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg did not lose a single set in their games, while the big match between SK Zadruga Aich/Dob and UVC Holding Graz was a volleyball thriller ending at tie break.
The reigning ÖVV Cup winner had recently suffered two clear defeats and had no chance at home against HYPO TIROL and in Ried. This weekend, however, Aich/Dob managed a brilliant comeback by beating Graz 3-2 (23:25, 19:25, 29:27, 25:22, 15:9) in their home arena and are now one point ahead of the Murstadt team in 4th place. Top scorers in the JUFA Arena Bleiburg were Carlos Charles Santana (24) and Bryan Camino Martinez (23), while Johannes Kratz (22) and Benedikt Sablatnig (21) were the most prolific players for Graz, who suffered the fifth defeat in the tie-break this season!
On Wednesday, head coach Zoltan Mozer’s team will welcome MAV Elore SC for the Challenge Cup return match in the Raiffeisen Sportpark and, not by chance, the Hungarians won 3-2 in their home arena!
Defending champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team has won a championship clash 3-0 for the sixth time this season. However, they had to fight hard in the first set against TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien, as the underdogs had eight opportunities to clinch the 1-0 lead. 3-0 (34:32, 25:22, 25:19) is the final result in game that lasted 85 minutes.
On Wednesday, the Innsbruck side will play their first home game in the Champions League group stage, hosting Allianz Milano in their USI Hall. This was HYPO TIROL great return in the elite European Cup after a nine-year break!
UVC McDonald’s Ried also continued their winning streak, winning in their Raiffeisen Volleydome against the still winless newcomers Sportunion z+p St. Pölten in three sets (25:19, 25:16, 25:22) to remain only one point behind leaders HYPO TIROL.
The top scorers for Ried were Markus Berger (15), while Borys Zhukov (12) and Georg KĂśstler (10), Aidan Saladana and Ralph Klaffinger (4 each) on the other side of the net.
Last season’s runners up TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg lived up to their role as favorite against WĂśrther-See-LĂśwen, celebrating a 3-0 (25:18, 25:19, 25:23) victory in Klagenfurt defending third place. Top scorers were Lukas Glatz (19) and Tobias Willimek (13) for the Styrians and Jonas Holzinger (10) and Simon FrĂźhbauer (8) for the Carinthians.
Hartberg’s focus is now on the CEV Cup return match on Wednesday against Guaguas Las Palmas. In their home arena, a 3-0 or 3-1 win is needed to force a golden set.
