Austria: Hypo Tirol and Hartberg won Game 1 of semifinals! Sokol and Waldviertel ok for 5th place

Defending champions of powerfusion VL Men HYPO TIROL volleyball team, lived up to their role as a favorite on Saturday at the start of the “Best-of-5” semifinals series, after beating UVC Holding Graz 3-0 (25:15, 25:17, 25:16) at home after just 64 minutes of play.
From the very beginning, they dominated the game, then leaving the
court with a clear superiority in all elements: attack 37 to 21 points, blocks 13 to 2 and 8 to 2 aces. Top scorers were Kyle Hobus with 13 points, while Robert Viiber earned MVP honors. Johannes Kratz scored 11 points for Graz.
Vice-champions 2024 TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg had to fight a lot in the second semifinal, defeating SK Zadruga Aich/Dob in their home hall 3-1 (20:25, 25:23, 25:23, 25:23) after 111 minutes of play.
After losing first set 20-25, the Styrians, well supported by 1000 loud fans, won the following sets all with the same score, 25:23. In three game elements, Hartberg was even slightly behind: attack 49 to 51 points, Blocks 14 to 15 and Aces 2 to 5, while Dorde Knezevic led the charge with 19 points. On the other side of the net, Bryan Camino Martinez scored 21 points but he wasn’t enough.
Also on Saturday, the first matches for 5th to 8th places has been played, with TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien who celebrated a 3-1 (25:18, 25:13, 16:25, 25:20) home victory against UVC McDonald’s Ried, while the Lower Austria derby in Amstetten’s Johann-Pölz-Halle went to the visiting team. The hosts VCA Amstetten NÖ were even able to perform a half comeback recovering from a 0:2 set deficit in the clash against Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel, but then they surrendered at tie-break, 2-3 (23:25, 20:25, 27:25, 25:18, 11:15).
The return matches will start on Wednesday, 29th. March and, in case of a tie, also a golden set.
