Croatia: Mursa Osijek lift national cup after a five-sets drama

2 min read

In an exciting men’s volleyball final at the brand-new Zeleni brijeg hall in Sisak, Mursa Osijek triumphed over long-time national rivals HAOK Mladost Zagreb with a great 3-2 victory (28:26, 26:24, 23:25, 23:25, 17:15) to lift the Super Sport Cup of Croatia – Vinko Dobrić.
After losing to the same rivals three times earlier this season, the team from Osijek came from two sets down to claim a hard-fought well-deserved win.
The match was a nail-biting battle from start to finish, featuring dramatic twists in each set.
Mladost started strong, taking the first two sets, but Mursa never backed down and, led by standout opposite Leo Andrić, who scored as many as 36 points, Osijek turned the tide with decisive plays in the final moments of each set.
Despite having match points, Mladost couldn’t hold on in the fifth-set decider.

We gave it our all in every single point,” said Leo Andrić. “They beat us three times this season, but we believed in ourselves and fought back. It’s an incredible feeling.

Coach Ratko Peris praised both teams’ efforts: “Every set was a battle. Mladost is a great team, but I think we deserved this win today.

Coach Radovan Gačić acknowledged the intensity of the match: “It was high-level volleyball. We had our chances, but Mursa’s resilience paid off.
