Austria: HYPO TIROL extend their lead in final series – 3-0 also in Game 2 in Hartberg!

Defending champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team took the next step towards their 13th Austrian title on Wednesday evening, winning also Game 2 of Powerfusion VL Men’s final on the field of TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg with the score of 0-3 (28:30, 19:25, 17:25).
The winners have already won Game 1 of best-of-7 series also in straight sets, while Game 3 will take place on Easter Saturday in Innsbruck.
Today Hartberg showed a great performance compared to Saturday in front of a fantastic home crowd, above all in first hard-fought set and at the start of second one.
However, with seven consecutive points and the score of 8-14, Hypo Tirol managed to close second set without major problems, then also taking a clear early lead in the third set, ultimately securing the victory with great authority. Niklas Kronthaler and Kyle Hobus led the charge for the winners with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Tobias Willimek was the only player in double digit for the home team.

“Losing in front of such a home crowd is never nice. We would have liked to offer our fans more, but the Tyroleans put a lot of pressure on their serve and also played well in defense. It’s a real shame about the first set. Maybe we were a bit unlucky today; you also need a certain amount of luck. It’s frustrating, but it’s not over yet!” said Hartberg setter Max Thaller.

HYPO TIROL VT libero Jacob Kitzinger: “It’s always difficult in Hartberg; the arena is always full. Today they applied more pressure from the service line, which they lacked in the first game. But we did our job and need to win two more games. We want to take a 3-0 lead at home on Saturday and then close out the series on the road.”

Unfortunately, this is HYPO TIROL volleyball team’s last season in Austrian top division, as the club has announced it will cease professional play.
Over the past two decades, they have celebrated twelve championship titles and seven ÖVV Cup victories while, this season, they are undefeated on a National level. After winning the Supercup and ÖVV Cup, all they need is the championship title to complete the historic triplete!
