Austria: Hypo Tirol one step from the title! Hartberg destroyed also in Game 3

HYPO TIROL volleyball team is just one win from the historic triplete of Supercup, ÖVV Cup, and championship. The defending champions won also Game 3 of 2024/25 Powerfusion VL in their USI Hall against TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg 3-0 (25:14, 25:22, 27:25).
And It’s quite possible that this was their last home game in the top division, as the club will cease professional play at the end of the season.

Three days ago, the Styrians were very close to win a set, and today too but it isn’t enough as, after 82 minutes of play, the home team converted their third match point. Kyle Hobus with 18 points and MVP Matej Smidl with 12 and Niklas Kronthaler (9), who will retire after the final series, led the charge, while no player for Hartberg left the court in double digit.

On Wednesday, HYPO TIROL volleyball team will have first opportunity to close the affair and claim the 13th championship title in the club’s history at the Stadtwerke Hartberg Hall. If Innsbruck wins again on the road, it would be the perfect farewell, as they have yet to lose on the national stage this season!

“I’m very satisfied, after all, we’re playing the final series without Arthur Nath (appendectomy, ed.). Of course, I believe we’ll close everything in four games,” said HYPO TIROL VT manager Hannes Kronthaler.

HYPO TIROL VT captain Niklas Kronthaler: “We won 3-0, but a lot of thoughts are going through my head. I’ve experienced a lot in this arena. We want to finish the series on Wednesday, and that’s what we have to focus on. Hartberg has their back against the wall and will risk everything again. We have to be careful.”

TSV Hartberg setter Max Thaller: “We’re not at our peak mentally or physically. But we were able to really annoy them in the third set. After two bad sets, we came back strongly. I’m proud of my team. We played more freely then.”
