Cucine Lube Civitanova’s semifinals stunning performances crush titleholders Sir Susa Vim Perugia’s hopes in Game 5 semifinal thriller.
The winners performed a stunning playoff comeback, defeating Sir Susa Vim Perugia 1-3 (29:27, 19:25, 17:25, 22:25) at PalaBarton.
After trailing 0-2 in the series, Lube secured three consecutive wins—two of them away—demonstrating all their technical strength and resilience.
The result, that marks the 10th Scudetto Final in Lube’s storied history, not only sends them to the Scudetto Final, but also guarantees their qualification for the 2025/26 CEV Champions League.
The opening set went Perugia’s way, after a great comeback from 17-21 to clinch it 29-27 thanks to two aces by Wassim Ben Tara and a decisive ball from Kamil Semeniuk. Civitanova, undeterred, reacted in the second set, with Mattia Bottolo who ignited the partial with two aces, and Nikolov closed it out with authority at 19-25.
The third set showcased Lube’s serving dominance, scoring five aces, with Lagumdzija hammering down very important points, leaving Perugia trailing again, 17-25.
In the fourth one, Perugia initially took full control, also thanks to a wave of enthusiastic home crowd to take the lead 16-13. However, Bottolo turned the tide again with more aces, well supported backed by Alex Nikolov. Set and match ended at 22-25, thanks to a Perugia error from the service line.
MVP honors went to Mattia Bottolo, who scored 16 points including as many as 7 aces, well supported by top scorer Adis Lagumdzija, who left the court with 18, Alex Nikolov who added 16, and Giovanni Gargiulo, who also contributed with 11 points to his name.
For Perugia, Ben Tara was the most prolific player with 15 points, supported by Yuki Ishikawa with 13 and Sebastián Solé with 10.
Lube will face Itas Trentino in the Scudetto Final, which begins this Sunday, April 27 at 18:30 CET at the ilT quotidiano Arena.
Trentino advanced after a clean sweep, 3-0, against Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in their semifinal series!
