Poland: Ignacio Luengas, Moritz Reichert and Marcel Hendzelewski Join Ślepsk Malow Suwałki

Plusliga side Ślepsk Malow Suwałki have strengthened their roster with three new outside hitters: Ignacio Luengas (in photo), Moritz Reichert, and Marcel Hendzelewski.

The newcomers will compete for a place in the starting lineup alongside Asparuh Asparuhov, who will remain with the club for another season, as announced during a special press conference on February, and the battle for a starting spot promises to be particularly exciting.

Next season, our reception and outside hitter unit will be a blend of experience and youth. We are bringing in players who have won some of the toughest matches of their careers and know how to perform under pressure, while also adding young, highly ambitious athletes eager to prove their value. It’s a combination that should give us both stability and unpredictability,” said Wojciech Winnik, President of Ślepsk Malow Suwałki.

Standing at 204 cm, Argentine international Ignacio Luengas arrived in Europe in 2020 and has since developed his career in some of the continent’s top leagues, playing in Finland, Spain, and the Czech Republic where, in 2023/24 season, he was named both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league and Best Outside Hitter. Since the 2024/25 season, he has represented France’s Tourcoing Lille Métropole, where he established himself as one of the team’s key players.
His list of achievements includes the French Cup, league championships in both Czech Republic and Spain, as well as the FIVB U23 World Championship title won with Argentina in 2017.

Moritz Reichert arrives in Suwałki as one of the most accomplished German outside hitters of his generation. The 195 cm outside hitter, grew up in Frankfurt’s renowned volleyball system, achieved his first major successes with VfB Friedrichshafen, winning both the German Championship and the German Cup in the 2014/15 season.
He later represented clubs such as United Volleys and Berlin Recycling Volleys, consistently competing for top club in Bundesliga and appearing regularly in the CEV Champions League. His career has also included spells abroad, notably with Tours VB and Montpellier in France.
But Polish volleyball is already familiar territory for Reichert as, between 2020 and 2022, he played in PlusLiga for Trefl Gdańsk. The 31-year-old German is a four-time national champion and a three-time German Super Cup winner, and he has been a key member of the German national team for many years, representing his country at events such as the European Championship and the Volleyball Nations League.

Meanwhile, Marcel Hendzelewski, standing 191 cm tall, is a product of Lechia Tomaszów Mazowiecki, where he has spent his entire senior career to date.
Over seven seasons in Poland’s second-tier competition, he appeared in 160 matches and scored 1,160 points, steadily establishing himself as one of the league’s leading outside hitters. During the 2025/26 season, he also ranked among the very best players in reception statistics.
The most significant achievement of his career so far came in the summer of 2025, when he won a gold medal at the Summer Universiade in Berlin with Poland’s university national team. Years of patient development have now earned him the opportunity he had been working toward—his transfer to Suwałki marks his long-awaited PlusLiga debut.

The competition for a place in the starting lineup will be extremely balanced. On one side, we have experienced players such as Ignacio Luengas and Moritz Reichert; on the other, talented athletes like Asparuh Asparuhov and Marcel Hendzelewski, for whom the upcoming season will be his first at the PlusLiga level.
Marcel has steadily built his reputation in Poland’s second tier over many years and has shown that he is ready for top-level volleyball. His achievements with the national team and his position among the league leaders in reception statistics are clear evidence of that. He is also a player who already knows head coach Piotr Graban from their time working together with the national team setup.
I believe this competition for every meter of court space will push the entire team forward,
” added the president.

The club warmly welcome its three new players and wish them every success in the upcoming PlusLiga season.
