Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie announced that Aaron Russell will remain with the club also for the 2026/2027 season.
The American outside hitter is set to begin his third campaign with the Poland’s defending champions after two highly successful years in the club’s jersey.
Russell joined Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie from Japan’s JT Thunders in 2024 and made an immediate impact.
In his first weeks with the club, he helped the team capture the Polish Super Cup, delivering a match-high 25 points in the final and earning MVP honors.
His debut season in Poland proved to be a memorable one, as the club finished as runners-up in both the PlusLiga and the CEV Champions League.
The following season brought even greater success. Russell played a key role in leading the club to its first-ever Polish Championship, a historic achievement in the club’s history. His outstanding performances throughout the campaign were recognized with the title of Best Foreign Player of the PlusLiga.
On the international stage, Russell once again helped the team reach the CEV Champions League final, securing a second consecutive silver medal. He also represented Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie at the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Brazil, where the team claimed the bronze medal, while Russell was named Best Outside Hitter of the tournament.
“I’m very happy to be returning to the team soon. Last season was a tremendous success for us, and I’m highly motivated for the year ahead as we continue building on what we’ve achieved together. From the very beginning, the club, coaching staff, and my teammates have been exceptional. My family and I have been fortunate to call Zawiercie our home. I’m looking forward to chasing more success and continuing to represent the green and yellow colours,” he said in the club’s official statement.
During his two seasons with the club, Russell has established himself as one of the league’s premier outside hitters, playing an integral role in Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie’s domestic and international success. His consistency, leadership, and ability to perform in the biggest moments have made him one of the team’s key players.
“Aaron Russell fully deserved to be named the Best Foreign Player in the PlusLiga,” said Kryspin Baran, President of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. “He is an incredibly versatile player who played a crucial role throughout our demanding playoff campaign. Over the past two seasons, he has perfectly embodied Michał Winiarski’s philosophy of volleyball. Aaron is the type of player who takes responsibility when the pressure is at its highest. His calm personality and great respect for every opponent have earned him the reputation of being a true gentleman of volleyball. We are delighted that he will continue fighting for the highest goals together with us.”
Russell, who has represented the United States for over a decade, brings a wealth of international experience to the squad. His impressive career includes an Olympic bronze medal, a World Championship bronze medal, a Volleyball World Cup title, multiple Volleyball Nations League medals, and numerous club honours across Italy, Japan, and Poland.
With Russell staying in Zawiercie, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie retains one of the world’s top outside hitters as the club prepares to defend its PlusLiga title and compete once again for the biggest trophies in Europe.
