After two advances played yesterday, in which ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle finally opened their league account with a straight-sets victory away at Energa Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów recovered from losing the opening set to beat Energa Trefl Gdańsk, and Ślepsk Malow Suwałki which finally have their first victory of the 2026/27 TAURON Liga season, Round 3 of 2026/27 TAURON Liga continued today with other three games.
Saturday’s action brought three straight-set victories, but the most significant result came in Bełchatów, where Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie delivered a commanding performance to defeat previously unbeaten PGE GiEK Skra 3-0. Meanwhile, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin maintained their perfect record and PGE Projekt Warszawa got back on track.
The headline clash saw the Polish champions take control against a Bełchatów side that had won all three of its previous league matches and entered the encounter at the top of the standings. Zawiercie, on the other hand, had endured a less convincing start, losing their opening league fixture against GKS Katowice before suffering a 0-3 defeat to Lublin in the Polish Super Cup. Their victory over PGE Projekt Warszawa in an advanced fixture had already suggested a change in momentum, and Saturday’s performance provided further evidence.
The visitors dominated the opening set, winning 25-16, and although Bełchatów offered more resistance in the second, Zawiercie remained in control to take it 25-21. The third set followed the pattern of the first, with the reigning champions pulling away to seal another 25-16 victory.
Tomasz Fornal was named MVP with 13 points to his name while Kamil Rychlicki led Zawiercie’s scoring with 16. Aaron Russell contributed 11, and Mateusz Bieniek also played an important role. The difference was particularly evident in attack: Warta scored 51 points in the department, compared with just 31 for Skra, with an impressive 68% attacking efficiency. Alan Souza was the hosts’ leading scorer with 16 points.
At the Hala Globus in Lublin, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin continued their impressive run with a straight-set victory over GKS Katowice (25:18, 25:17, 25:21). Stéphane Antiga’s side has now won all three of its league matches without dropping a single set, having previously swept ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Energa Trefl Gdańsk. The result also follows their convincing Super Cup triumph over Zawiercie, making this an especially encouraging opening to the campaign for the Lublin team.
Earlier in the afternoon, PGE Projekt Warszawa returned to winning ways with a 3-0 away victory over Stilon Gorzów (25:23, 25:18, 27:25). The visitors had arrived in Gorzów after two consecutive defeats and needed a response. They found it through Yuri Romano, who produced his best performance of the early season to earn MVP honours.
The Italian opposite finished with 21 points, including 18 kills and three aces, attacking at 62% efficiency with only two errors. His contribution proved decisive in a match that was much closer than the final score might suggest. Gorzów stayed in contention throughout the opening set and even led 21-19 before Projekt turned things around. The second set was more straightforward for the visitors, but the hosts came close to extending the match in the third, when they had a set point at 24-23. Warszawa held firm, saved the opportunity and eventually closed out the contest 27-25.
The result gave Roberto Piazza’s team an important boost, while Gorzów suffered its second defeat of the season in three matches. For the Gorzów side, the narrow margins in the first and third sets offered some encouragement, but they were unable to turn their competitive spells into a set victory.
With the third round still to be completed, Saturday’s results have already provided a significant development at the top of the table: Bełchatów’s unbeaten run is over, Zawiercie have sent a strong message to their rivals, and Lublin remain one of the teams to beat.
Round 3 will close tomorrow with the clash between Jastrzębie Barkom and Podziemia Kredowe ChKS Chełm.
