CEV Cup: Modena defeat Belchatow in four sets in first leg of semifinals

After Piacenza’s bad defeat in straight sets in Belgium yesterday, the other italian team in race for a spot in 2022/23 CEV Cup Grand Finale didn’t fail today.

Valsa Group Modena defeat the Polish side PGE Skra Belchatow by 3-1 (25:20, 20:25, 25:18, 25:22), in what was a very nervous match, above all in its final, and with lot of ups and downs in both sides.
However, the hosts were better from the service line, scoring 11 aces and creating hardships in the rivals’ reception.
And now for Modena in Poland, in second leg scheduled on Wednesday, March 15, two sets were enough.

Protagonists of the game are young middle-blocker Giovanni Sanguinetti, author of 5 aces, and young outside hitter Tommaso Rinaldi, who close tue game with 22 punti through 69% in attack and MVP award.
For Belchatow the 18 points scored by Aleksandar Atanasijevic weren’t enough, also because reception was very very poor: only 27% positive and 14% perfect, and so nothing to do for expert setter Gregor Lomacz.

For Belchatow, the disappointing season thus continued: recall that, at the time of writing this article, they are only at 11th place in Plusliga with 34 points (leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Asseco Resovia Rzeszow are to the top with 59).
