2 min read

The battle for semifinal berths in 2022/23 CEV Champions League continued today with a quarterfinal match held at Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin between the hosts Berlin Recycling Volleys and Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia.
The Italian team dominated the game in all elements, including blocking (15-7) and serving (10-3 in aces), and they defeated the rivals by 1-3 (18:25, 15:25, 25:23, 17:25)z
Marek Sotola of Berlin was the match top scorer with 18 points and a 52% success rate in attack.
Following closely behind were Perugia’s trio of Kamil Rychlicki and Wilfredo Leon, both with 16 points, and Oleh Plotnytskyi with 15 points.
The first earned the title of MVP with 13 points through 52% in attack and 3 winning block points to his name.

A beautiful atmosphere tonight and a tough match. We played aggressive, in the third set we made a few too many mistakes, then we went back to playing our volleyball. Tonight the result was important and we achieved it”, said Oleh Plotnytskyi.

It wasn’t easy and we knew it. We struggled at the beginning, then we kept the match under control because we blocked and defended very well thanks to a great serve. Berlin played a very good match, it was a real match in front of a wonderful fans“, added Andrea Anastasi head coach of Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia

Cedric Enard, head coach of Berlin Recycling Volleys: “You could see the physical difference today. Perugia is known for serving power and they showed that here in our arena. We were under a pressure from the opponent the whole match, which we are not used to be. Nevertheless, Marek and Cody, after being substituted, for example, performed well. In the third set our block defense was more effective and so we could reward ourselves. Against this team you have to take so much risk, you can’t succeed at everything. Perugia came here as the superior team in Europe and now we know why. We will try our best again in Italy, but it will be hard.
