Challenge Cup: a super Olympiacos destroy Tel Aviv to take first big step towards the title!
1 min read
It’s time to final in 2022/23 CEV Challenge Cup!
In what was the first European Cup this season that will be assigned, Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus won in just three sets on the field of Israel’s Maccabi Yeadim Tel Aviv, almost perfect in this competition so far (including the biggest result, a first ever final played in club’s history).
In front of more than 3000 home fans, and with the only exception of second set, Olympiacos’ victory is clear (20:25, 23:25, 14:25), and decisive were the 14 winning blocks (4 each by Tonček Stern and Gustavo Guazzelli Bonatto) and the opaque performance of bomber Alexander
Safonov in Maccabi’s jersey, top scorer (and the only one player
in double digit) with 13 points, but with only 46% in attack with 4 errors and 3 blocked.
Slovenian Tonček Stern was the top scorer among the winners with 19 points, while Salvador Hidalgo Oliva also contributed with 15.
Second leg is scheduled in Greece on Wednesday, March 15.
