Other two games of 2022/23 Plusliga Quarterfinal Series were played today again without upsets.
In Game 1, winning debut for Champions League finalists and No.3 in Plusliga Jastrzębski Węgiel, who literally destroyed the rivals Trefl Gdańsk (sixth placed in the competition) with a clear 3-0 (25:19, 25:17, 25:18) after only 79 minutes of play.
In what was an absolute one-sided game, Tomasz Fornal was the top scorer with 17 points to his name as well as MVP award, with 58% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 1 ace, while Stephen Boyer also contributed with 12 points and, although it wasn’t his better performance in attack, he scored 5 of his team’s 11 aces (who made the difference in the match). The only player in double digit on the losing side was Jan Franchi Martinez with 10 points but only with 33% efficiency in attack.
Game 2 is scheduled tomorrow, on Easter Day, again on the field of Jastrzębski.
Straight sets win also for regular season leaders Asseco Resovia Rzeszów over No.8 PSG Stal Nysa (25:21, 25:18, 26:24), rejecting the rival’s attempt to re-open the game in third set.
Wassim Ben Tara ended the game as top scorer with 14 points to his name, but he wasn’t enough for Stal Nysa to win the game or a single set, as his team struggled a lot in attack, closing with only 24% efficiency.
On the winning side, better basically in all elements but, above all, from the service line with 7 aces to 0, Torey Defalco was MVP and top scorer with 13 points, 55% in attack and 2 winning blocks, while Klemen Cebulj and Macej Muzaj also contributed with 11 each.
Resovia now lead the series 2-0, and Game 3 is scheduled on Friday, April 14.
