Italy: Civitanova defeat Trento at tie break – series for title tied!

2 min read

Cucine Lube Civitanova win Game 2 of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca final against Itas Trentino at tie break (25:21, 25:15, 19:25, 23:25, 17:15) and managed to tie the score, after almost wasting a 2-0 lead and closing only at 17-15 of fifth set.
The hosts won first set, then dominated the second to suffer the proud reaction of the rivals, able to win third and fourth set.
Although in the final part of tie break the titleholders were ready to celebrate, with a 13-10 lead, Trento reacted again and, with Donovan Dzavoronov from the service line, managed to level tje score again.
Lube wasted two match balls but, at third attempt, they keep alive a decisive ball, first with a suspence of De Cecco, a few millimeters from the led side, and then Zaytsev with a desperate bagher rescue from the net, allowing Nikolov to close the game with a powerful attack on the hands of Trento’s block to end out, and that is worth the decisive 17-15.

Technically not a very good match, with lot of erros on both sides (33 to 34), but with a nice collection of good actions.
In first two sets the hosts forced a lot from the service line with Ivan Zaytsev and Marlon Yant (9 aces at the end of the game) but, when they tried again in fourth set, the players around head coach Lorenzetti are very different, more efficient in attack and with a good Alessandro Michieletto, who closed the match with 19 points.
Still without Lisinac (out also in the next game, injured in Game 1), the impact of Wout D’Heer was decisive: Belgian outside hitter made 3 winning blocks and 3 aces, also recording a 5/6 in attack.
On the other side of the net, however, Civitanova never die, as always, in these playoffs, with again a good Nikolov (17 points although his 7 attacks blocked) and an amazing Fabio Balaso, although the best was French middle blocker Barthélémy Chinenyeze, top scorers of the match with 18 points through an impressive 89% in attack.

The best-of-five series will continue on Sunday, May 7 in Trento and, again, on Wednesday 14 on the field of defending champions Civitanova.
