Austria: Hypo Tirol destroy Weiz, first win for Aich/Dob in Round 2
2 min read
After the advance played yesterday in which TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg down VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt in straight sets, Round 2 of Powerfusion VL Men continued today with other two games.
Titleholders, Austrian Cup and Supercup winner HYPO TIROL volleyball team lived up their role as favorite on Saturday evening, celebrating a straight sets win (25:22, 25:10, 27:25) on the field of VBC TLC Weiz.
The Innsbruck side now lead the current charts with the same number of points, six, of TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg, while today’s rivals are at the bottom without winning a single set set. Top scorers were Mark Kremer (12) and Ulve Steidl (10) for the hosts, and Luan Weber (16 points through 70% in attack) and Niklas Kronthaler (10) on the winning side.
On the second match of the day, runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob achieved a hard-fought home victory against TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien (25:20, 23:25, 13:25, 25:20, 15:12). New head coach Michael Murauer’s renewed team suffered a defeat in just three sets in Graz exactly a week ago, but now is back on the winning track while, on the other side of the net, the team from country’s capital missed opportunity, after leading 12-9 in the tie-break.
Top scorers in the JUFA-Arena Bleiburg were Angelos Mandilaris, who scored as many as 36 points including 2 winning blocks, 1 ace and 61% in attack for the winners and Aleksander Grzegorczyk (12), and Jakub Kocvara (21) and Tobias Ofner (13) for Sokol.
The last two games of the 2nd round will take place on Sunday.
VCA Amstetten NÖ will face at home UVC Holding Graz at 4:30 p.m., and in the evening UVC McDonald’s Ried and Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel face each other at the Volleydome at 8:15 p.m.
