Austria: Graz and Waldviertel close Round 2 with victories. Amstetten and Ried ko

Round 2 of Powerfusion VL Men regular season ended today with last two games of the week.

In the evening, Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel celebrated their first win of the new season winning on the field of UVC McDonald’s Ried at tie-break (25:15, 22:25, 19:25, 25:15, 15:10).
They started in a perfect way, taking the lead from the very beginning of the match and confidently winning the first set. Things also went well also in the second, putting down the ball of 13:11 but, suddenly the hosts react and, after 57 minutes of play, it was 1-1. The momentum remained on the home side, and the third set was a pretty one-sided affair.
However, Waldviertel managed a fantastic comeback in the fourth set, from 6:5 to 12:6 and managed to equalize the score again taking a convincing 25:15.
The tie-break was a great exchange of blows, at least until 8:8 as Waldviertel gained the decisive advantage with five points in a row and, after 136 minutes, a service error gave them the 3-2 away win and the first success of the season.
Top scorers in the Raiffeisen Volleydome were Tomasz Rutecki with 22 points but with only 35% in attack (11% efficiency) and Amaury Auffray (10) for the hosts, and Krzysztof Gulak (21 points and 41% in attack) and Koendert Daan Streutker (15) on the winning side, but decisive were their 18 winning blocks (5 each from Krzysztof Gulak and Niklas Stooß) against 11 for Ried.

Earlier in the evening, UVC Holding Graz celebrated their second win in as many games of the season prevailing in the Johann-Pölz-Halle against hosts VCA Amstetten NÖ after a thrilling games lasted as many as 144 minutes, 3-1 (25:23, 22:25, 26:24, 33:31).
In first round, a week ago, Graz surprised volleyball fans with a sweeping victory over runner-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob.
The first three sets were extremely exciting, but the fourth round was particularly tough, and several times the home team was only one point from a possible tie-break.
Top scorers of the game were Samuel Jackman (32 and 48% in attack) and Yousri Anegay (11) for the hosts, and Johannes Kratz (19 points, 55% in attack and 3 winning blocks), Benedikt Sablatnig and Arwin Kopschar with 13 each for the winners.
