After the thrilling advance played yesterday, in which titleholders Tours struggled more than expected against newcomers Saint-Jean d’Illac, Round 1 of new Marmara Spike League has been completed today with the other 6 games.
The day started with a straight sets win for Nantes Rezé against a non-existent Montpellier (25:20, 25:21, 25:17). In a game lasted only 1 hours and 16 minutes, the winners were better in all elements, and they were led by Neves Atu Chizoba, absolute top scorer of the match with 21 points to his name, 2 blocks and 63% in attack. On the losing side, no player reached a double digit.
Straight sets home win also for Chaumont who easily defeated Saint Nazaire (25:20, 25:20, 25:14) in a remake of the exciting quarterfinal series of the last season, solved only in Game 5. But today’s game wasn’t so interesting.
The team commanded by italian expert Silvano Prandi literally destroyed their rivals and, actually, blocked them, as they recorded as many as 12 winning blocks against only one of Saint Nazaire!
The bests in this element were Michael Marshmann and top scorer Patrick Indra, with 4 each, and the latter also added 13 points in attack, through a good 56%.
On the other side of the net, only Lourenço Martins reached a double digit, scoring 10 points to his name.
Other two games ended with the same result, with Paris who celebrated a 0-3 (23:25, 16:25, 28:30) win on the field of a combative and reworked Narbonne. In fact, the team now commanded by Rafael Redwitz changed all roster compared to the last season, with the only exception of Bulgarian middle blocker Nikolay Kolev (today author of just 3 points, 1 block and 25% in attack, while Brazilian opposite Daniel Cagliari, last season in Toulouse, ended the game as top scorer with 17 points, the only one in double digit). On the winning side Japanese star Kento Miyaura scored 13 points, all in attack, through 50%, followed by Daniel Wetter with 11 (1 block, 10/14 and 71%).
Away win, also in straight sets, also for Poitiers (23:25, 22:25, 23:25) on the field of Plessis Robinson, despite the great performance of Samuel Jeanlys, top scorer of the game with 18 points, 1 aces, 2 blocks and 71% in attack.
Among the winners, Metin Toy scored 16 points.
Tourcoing needed four sets to win on the field of Sète, 1-3 (25:16, 20:25, 20:25, 16:25), with 17 points from top scorer Pablo Koukartsev, 13 from captain Ryley Barnes and 11 with the signature of Gonzalo Quiroga, but decisive also the 12 winning blocks, against 6 of the rivals.
The only game of the day ended at tie break was the one between Nice and Toulouse, 3-2 (23:25, 25:21, 22:25, 25:22, 15:13).
In an thrilling and absolutely balanced game the hosts, who played without middle blocker Valerii Todua, out for a couple of weeks due an injury, were better in decisive moments of the game, and were led by MVP and top scorer François Rebeyrol, who closed the game with 22 points, 50% in attack, 2 blocks and 1 ace. To make the difference, however, were the 22 winning blocks, against 9 of the rivals!
