Italy: Round 4 is over! Milano stun Civitanova, Perugia down Modena in big match. Padova, Monza (temporarily to the top!) and Verona ok

4 min read

After yesterday’s advance, in which Itas Trentino down Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza by 3-1, Round 4 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca has been closed today with a big match, Monza to the top of the standings (but with one more game played) a big upset.

The day started with the second seasonal win for Pallavolo Padova, who defeated Cisterna Volley at tie break (25:23, 25:21, 23:25, 23:25, 15:12) in front of 2636 home fans,
almost wasting a 2-0 lead.
MVP of the game Gabi Garcia Fernandez, who scored 27 points for the winners.
Continues the good moment for MINT Vero Volley Monza, temporarily to the top of the standings (but with one more match, the advance of Round 5, played on Wednesday), after a clean 3-0 (25:14, 25:10, 25:17) win in front of their home fans at Opiquad Arena over a not-existent Gioiella Prisma Taranto. MVP of the match Brazilian setter Fernando Kreling, great protagonist on the field and able
to allow four of five to his spikers in double digit, from top scorer Arthur Szwarc, 15 points, to Stephen Maar (14), but also Ran Takahashi and Gianluca Galassi, who also contributed with 14 each.
The great upset of the day is the one staged by Allianz Milano who, in front of almost 4.200 home fans at their Allianz Cloud, and last-placed in the standings before this game, managed to defeat last season and Supercup runners-up Cucine Lube Civitanova, and they did it in just three sets (25:21, 27:25, 25:21).
PHOTOGALLERY OF THE MATCH
Decisive the recovery of setter Paolo Porro, but good performance also for young Belgian opposite Ferre Reggers, on the field in place of Petar Dirlic, and named MVP of the match with 15 points to his name.
First set was very balanced until the 18-18, until first break of the visiting side with an attack from Lagumdzija, but the reaction of Milano is decisive. After a
second set ended overtime, Coach Blengini try to change something in third set with Marlon Yant, and then also with Mattia Bottolo, but nothing to do and Milano can celebrate a well-deserved great victory mostly thanks to Kaziyski, who closed three points in a row for the 24-20. Although Yant cancelled first match point, Kaziyski again put down the ball of 25-21.
Meanwhile, Sir Susa Vim Perugia was winning the big match against Valsa Group Modena. In a PalaBarton packed with 4200 volleyball fans, the hosts managed to win the game in four sets, 3-1 (14:25, 25:18, 25:20, 25:18) after a first set in which Modena was unstoppable from the service line and in attack, with 70% of team performance. However, starting from second set, the hosts’ reaction with Semeniuk in serving and the game changed, scoring 6 aces only in second set (7 at the end of the match) and closing the clash with 11 block points, 6 only in third set. To close the game Oleh Plotnytskyi, with the ace of 25:18 and MVP award with 17 points to his name through 62% in attack, but double digit also for a great Wassim Ben Tara (18 points) and Kamil Semeniuk, who also contributed with 12. On the losing side, the most prolific player was Tommaso Rinaldi with 13 points.
In the evening, Rana Verona won on the field of newcomers Farmitalia Catania by 1-3 (23:25, 22:25, 27:25, 16:25), with a stellar performance of MVP Rok Mozic, author of as many as 30 points in just four sets!

Superlega CredemBanca will continue on Wednesday with the 5 games that will close Round 5.
