After first three games played yesterday, that saw a clear win of Resovia, Warszawa confirm themselves to the top and a superb win of newcomers from Częstochowa against Bełchatów, Round 7 of 2023/24 Plusliga continued today with other three duels.
What an exciting rivalry between Projekt Warszawa and Jastrzębski Węgiel!
The two, both undefeated, continued to fight for the first place in the standings: the team from country’s capital, won on Friday on the field of Trefl Gdańsk and stayed to the top until today with 20 points, when Jastrzębski Węgiel easily won 0-3 (18:25, 15:25, 19:25) on the field of Barkom Każany Lwów to surpass them again, now at +1.
MVP of the day French setter Benjamin Toniutti, while Tomasz Fornal and Canadian Ryan Sclater both ended the game in double digit with 15 and 10 points respectively. To make the difference, however, was their performance in blocking, as they scoring 12 points from this element compared to 3 of the rivals, who struggled a lot also in attack, with just 18% efficiency. Only opposite Vasyl reached a double digit with 11 points to his name but with only 42% in attack (blocked four times and with 2 errors).
After a hard-fought first set, also Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle managed to close the game in straight sets, winning on the field of last-placed Enea Czarni Radom – 0-3 (26:28, 21:25, 20:25), still winless and without points in the standings. A very important result for the winners who, despite the injuries, climbed from 7th to 4th place in the standings! MVP of the game a very good Bartosz Bednorz, author of 14 points through 68% in attack and 1 block. Top scorer of the match Nikola Meljanac, who tallied 19 points in the jersey of Radom.
In the evening, three points also for PSG Stal Nysa, who won on the field of GKS Katowice with the score of 1-3 (25:14, 19:25, 22:25, 20:25), led by MVP and top scorer Michał Gierżot (23 points, 67% in attack and 1 of the winners’ 9 aces).
Tomorrow the two last games of Round 7: at 5.30 pm local time KGHM Cuprum Lubin will face Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie while in the evening, at 8.30pm BOGDANKA LUK Lublin will face Ślepsk Malow Suwałki.
