France: Round 3 is over – 3 points for Chaumont, Tourcoing, Sète, Poitiers and Tours

4 min read

After the advance played yesterday, in which Montpellier won in straight sets on the field of Paris, Round 3 of 2024/25 MARMARA Spike League has been closed today with all the other scheduled games.
With Toulouse who have a dayoff, all today’s winners earned three points.
First seasonal win for Chaumont, who won with the score of 1-3 (29:27, 16:25, 20:25, 22:25) on the field of newcomers Cannes.
After 2 hours and 6 minutes of play, and a never ending first set lasted 38 minutes, the winners were better in attack, with 55% of team performance compared to the hosts’ 41%, but also from the service line, with 9 aces (4 only from Pierre Toledo) to 4.
Jacob Pasteur and Mathis Henno were the most prolific players of the match with 23 (60% in attack and 2 winning blocks) and 22 (59% in attack and 2 aces) points respectively for Chaumont, while Lukas Demar was the top scorer for a Cannes who suffered the bad day of bomber Reda Haikal (10 points with 1 ace and 2 blocks but only 28% in attack) with 15 points to his name.
All the others ended in straight sets.
After a dayoff and a home defeat against Tourcoing, Sète celebrated their first seasonal win and they did it in the better possible way, on the field of Nice who, however, was penalized by the absence of captain Ryley Barnes.
The game ended with the score of 0-3 (17:25, 18:25, 21:25), with an amazing performance in blocking who made the difference (9 at the end of the game, but with several balls touched), and with a great performance of Hugo De Leon Guimarães, top scorer of the match with 19 points but also 2 winning blocks, 2 aces and 75% in attack. Not by chance, he was named MVP of the game. Double digit also for Tristan Schlienger (11 points with 1 ace, 1 block and 56% in attack), while Daenan Gyimah also contributed with 9 through 88% in attack and 2 blocks.
Among the hosts, Alexandros Raptis and Simon Hirsch scored 13 points each.

About Tourcoing, they celebrated today another win, this time at home, against a combative Narbonne who, after suffering the rivals’ play in first set, reacted with a comeback in second one from 21-19 and, after leading the game basically in all third set, they surrendered after 1 hours and 38 minutes of intense play, 3-0 (25:18, 25:23, 29:27).
Lars Migge left the court as top scorer scoring 19 points with 2 aces, 1 block and 46% in attack for Narbonne, but he wasn’t enough, as he was the only player in double digit. For Tourcoing, Ignacio Luengas scored 13 points with 2 aces and 61% in attack, followed by Pablo Koukartsev, who added 12, and a great Michael Parkinson, with 10, 2 winning blocks and an impressive 78% in attack.
Straight sets win also for Poitiers, in front of almost 2500 home fans over titleholders Saint Nazaire, 3-0 (25:21, 25:23, 25:22), with 62% of team performance in attack and 4 players in double digit: top scorer Thibault Thoral put down 13 points through 60% in attack and 1 ace, Earvin Ngapeth and Dusan Nikolic added 11 each, while a perfect Simon Magnin also contributed with 10 including 1 winning block and 100% in attack (9/9)!
Jordan Ewert tallied 15 for Saint Nazaire, now with 4 points in the standings after three games played, while Poitiers sit alone to the top with 9 points, one more than their closest pursuers Montpellier and Tourcoing.
Close the picture the 3-0 (25:18, 25:14, 25:19) home win of Tours over a Plessis Robinson who are struggling, still searching their first set win, after other two straight sets defeats in derby against Paris in first round and on the field of Saint Nazaire.
Better in all elements and with an impressive 73% of team performance in attack and 62% positive reception, the winners were led in score by Hermans Egleskalns, top scorer of the game with 15 points to his name, all in attack, through 75%, well supported by Leandro Santos, who added 13 including 4 winning blocks, 1 ace and 8/8 in attack, Antoine Pothron and Gonzalo Quiroga, also in double digit with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Setter Zeljko Coric left the court as MVP.
