Italy: 32/32! Perugia lose one point but down also Trento! Half comeback of Padova vs. Verona, Piacenza and Modena ok
4 min read
After an advance played yesterday and in which Monza won in four sets on the field of Cisterna a very interesting game for playoffs’ qualification, Round 19 of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 8 of second leg, has been completed today with the only exception of the match between newcomers Emma Villas Aubay Siena and titleholders Cucine Lube Civitanova (postponed due the earthquake that in last days hit the italian city).
The Sunday of italian volleyball started with two advances, in which
Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, who finally recover Ricardo Lucarelli, down Allianz Milano in front of their home fans by 3-1 (27:25, 25:18, 18:25, 25:19).
After taking first set overtime, and also canceling three set points, the hosts literally dominated the second set and then collapsed in the third. Very good reaction in fourth set, very balanced until 17, and then the decisive break of Piacenza who deservedly won the game
In the day in which Ricardo Lucarelli finally back to the starting six, serving and blocking made the difference for Piacenza. Leal close the game with 70% in attack, Romanò with 62%, Simon was great in blocking, with 4 direct points.
Great show in the other game player in the afternoon: WithU Verona had a 0-2 lead in sets on the field of Pallavolo Padova, a team who is struggling a lot in the relegation battle. However, the hosts react and managed to level the score, surrendering only after a thrilling tie break, ended overtime, just like the decisive fourth set that guaranteed to be worth at least one point. Partially it was 21:25, 22:25, 25:20, 29:27 and, eventually, 17:19.
Among the hosts, Davide Gardini ended the game as top scorer with 20 points (including 4 aces and 2 winning blocks), but it was really a good team performance made with 11 aces and 9 blocks. However, the real Man of the match was Verona’s setter Luca Spirito, not by chance named MVP of the game.
Another team in the middle of very very very interesting battle to avoid relegation is Gioiella Prisma Taranto, involved today on the field of super favorite Valsa Group Modena who, in fact, managed to close the game by 3-1 (25:22, 25:16, 20:25, 25:18). The losing side continue to share the last place together with Siena, who have to recover the game initially scheduled today against titleholders Lube.
Tommaso Rinaldi was named once again MVP of the match for Modena after the great performance in CEV Cup quarterfinals on the field of ACH Volley Ljubljana, but good performance also for Lagumdzija with 16 points to his name, while on the other side of the net other 25 points putting down by Ibrahim Lawani and a good performance of Andreopoulos, on the field of a Loeppky not at his best, who scored 12 points.
32/32 for a Sir Safety Susa Perugia who don’t plan to stop, even though they secured the leadership of the competition several weeks ago.
Today, however, it was a Cuban who help them to avoid first defeat in season, scoring as many as 8 aces in the super big match against third-placed Itas Trentino.
The 32nd consecutive victory for Perugia arrived after a long tie-break, and Trento was the first SuperLega side to bring Perugia to a five-set battle this season, and they did it in front of 4,000 home fans in a sold-out BLM Group Arena.
Partially it was 25:19, 18:25, 22:25, 25:23 and 11:15.
Cuban Jaime Herrera showed a very high levels of the play today scoring 25 points for the winners, including the above mentioned eight aces, while Brazilian Flávio Gualberto also contributed with five blocks.
Alessandro Michieletto was the most prolific player among the hosts with 19 points, Serb Marko Podraščanin had five blocks, while Bulgarian Matey Kaziyski served four aces.
