Austria: a super Aich/Dob down Hypo Tirol – Final Series at 1-1!

SK Zadruga Aich/Dob equalized in the powerfusion Austrian Volley League Final best-of-seven series against absolute regular season winners and Austrian Cup titleholders HYPO TIROL volleyball team.
The Carinthians won Game 2 in their JUFA Arena in Bleiburg with the score of 3-1 (15:25, 29:27, 25:17, 25:20). The third game will take place in the USI halle next Saturday.

The visiting side had an absolute better start, taking a lead of 13-6 and winning the first set without any problems. However, Aich/Dob reacted in front of more than 1000 spectators in their home court and, although the rivals kept the pressure also in the second set with a 6-9 lead, the hosts came back with a partial of 7-1. The game was then balanced, but the Innsbruck side had to face with the injury of Arthur Nath. After an exciting final, the hosts managed to close at third set ball.
Third set very balanced too, until Aich/Dob were able to gain the decisive advantage with six points in a row. And, for the first time in this series of finals, they took a set lead. And HYPO TIROL shouldn’t come back: also in the fourth round, Aich/Dob turned a 13:16 into a 21:16, and the game was decided. After 109 minutes of play, the hosts used their second match point and inflicted to the rivals the only second defeat of the season!

Top scorers were Jurii Kruzhkov (19) and Stefan Kaibald (17) for the winners, Luan Weber (23) and Niklas Kronthaler (17) for Hypo Tirol.

In the second game of the day, VCA Amstetten NÖ win first Lower Austria duel for fifth place against Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel 3-0 (25:23, 25:19, 25:18) on the road. The 2022 Champions lost a 15:8 lead in the first set and, from the middle of the second one, the rivals were clearly the better team in the Stadthalle Zwettl. The decisive second leg will take place on April 16th in the Johann-Pölz-Halle.
