Italy: Comeback completed – Monza to Final! Trento defeated at tie break in decisive Game 5

Semifinals Series of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca finally came into an end with Mint Vero Volley Monza who secured their historic first entry into the Italian Scudetto Finals, defeating the reigning champions Itas Trentino in decisive Game 5 in a dramatic tie-break at the IlT Quotidiano Arena. The nail-biting match ended with the scores of 18:25, 22:25, 25:23, 26:24, and 15:17, after 2 hours and 30 minutes of play, with Monza who almost wasted a 0-2 lead in front of a crowd of 3,291 spectators.
The match was fiercely contested from the start, with the visiting side taking an early lead by winning the first two sets.
However, Trentino fought back, claiming the next two and pushing the match to a decisive tie break. In the end, Monza fought hard and clinched the victory in the final points of the fifth set, ended overtime.
Key players for Monza included Ran Takahashi, who scored 19 points and was named the match’s MVP, and the Canadian duo Stephen Maar and Eric Loeppky, each contributing with 23 points.
An almost unstoppable Kamil Rychlicki closed the game with 31 points through 66% in attack and two winning blocks.
Monza demonstrated superior attacking efficiency with a 50% success rate, slightly edging out Trentino’s 46%.
This victory sets up Monza for their next challenge against Sir Susa Vim Perugia, who eliminated Milano in Game 4, in Superlega decider at the Pala Barton on April 18, where they will compete in the first match of the Scudetto Finals.
