Poland: victory for ZAKSA, Warszawa and Olsztyn on Saturday games of Round 23

3 min read

After the advance played yesterday, in which PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów sweep PSG Stal Nysa 3-0, Round 23 of 2024/25 Plusliga or, if you prefer, Round 8 of second leg, continued today with other three games.
And what a match between ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Bogdanka LUK Lublin, ended with the score of 3-2 (25:20, 25:14, 23:25, 22:25, 15:11) in a nail-biting showdown.
The hosts started strong, winning the first two sets, but the rivals fought back to force a tie-break. In the decider, ZAKSA held their nerve, securing their sixth victory in a row.
The winners’ attack and blocking game (13–7) made the difference, while MVP award went to Rafał Szymura, who scored 19 points through 53% attack efficiency and 39% positive reception, well supported by top scorer Bartosz Kurek, who added 22, and Igor Grobelny, with 20. Wilfredo Leon was the most prolific player on the other side of the net with 18 points to his name, closely followed by Mateusz Malinowski, who added 17.
In another clash, PGE Projekt Warszawa won on the field of last-placed GKS Katowice with the score of 1-3 (21:25, 25:22, 22:25, 15:25). Despite sitting at the bottom of the table, the hosts put up a fight, keeping the first three sets tight. However, the team from country’s
capital proved to be too strong with powerful attacks, strong serving (7 aces), and solid blocking (10 points).
The man of the match was MVP Tobias Brand, who shined with 17 points through 57% attack efficiency, 4 aces, and 50% positive reception,
well supported by Bartłomiej Bołądź who added 15 and Artur Szalpuk with 14, while Aymen Bouguerra scored 24 points through 69% in attack and 2 aces for Katowice, but he wasn’t enough.
Four sets win also for Indykpol AZS Olsztyn who, in the evening, celebrated a very important win over Barkom Każany Lwów, 3-1 (25:16, 25:22, 19:25, 25:21), in front of almost 3500 home fans at Hala Urania.
Jan Hadrava led the charge with 20 points to his name through 39% in attack, 1 block, 4 of his team’s 7 aces and MVP award.
Round 23 will continue tomorrow with other three games: Steam Hemarpol Norwid Częstochowa will welcome Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, Trefl Gdańsk will face leaders and defending champions Jastrzębski Węgiel while, in the evening, Cuprum Stilon Gorzów will welcome Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
