Round 6 of 2024/25 Marmara Spike League started today with two advances.
After two losses in a row, Poitiers redeemed themselves with a great 1-3 (27:25, 23:25, 20:25, 22:25) on the field of powerhouse and last season runners-up Tours, and in front of more than 3000 volleyball fans at Salle Robert Grenon.
After two hours and 7 minutes of play, and a slightly better performance in blocking (10 to 6) and from the service line (7 aces to 3), the winners were led in score by Olympic Gold medalist Earvin Ngapeth, who left the court as absolute top scorer of the match with 24 points to his name through 50% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block.
Behind him, also in double digit, Jackson Howe who scored 10 points and 5 blocks, while Antoine Pothron was the most prolific player for Tours, with 14 points, all in attack, with 58% efficiency.
Despite this victory Poitiers remain at third place in the standings with 13 points, behind leaders Montpellier, with 15, and Tourcoing, with 14.
In the other game of the day, that has been solved only at 14-16 of fifth set, titleholders Saint Nazaire emerged victorious on the field of Toulouse with the score of 2-3 (18:25, 25:21, 21:25, 25:23, 14:16).
To make the difference the winners’ performance in blocking, with as many as 16 points from this element compared to the rivals’ 6.
Henri Leon scored 25 points including 2 aces, 4 blocks and 53% in attack, but he was well supported by Jordan Ewert (only 31% in attack but 4 aces), and an almost perfect Luuc Van Der Ent (1 ace, 4 winning blocks and 91% in attack), who also contributed with 15 each. Double digit also for Nicolas Burel, who added 13 through 82% in attack and 4 winning blocks too, while Maxime Hervoir and Nathan Feral scored 24 and 21 points respectively on the losing side.
Round 6 will close tomorrow with other four games: Tourcoing will welcome Paris, last-placed and still winless Plessis Robinson will face Nice at home, Sète will welcome newcomers Cannes and Narbonne will face current leaders Montpellier.
