If we know the name of two semifinalists in 2022/23 Plusliga Playoffs, competition’s leaders Asseco Resovia RzeszĂłw, who eliminated yesterday PSG Stal Nysa, and third placed JastrzÄbski WÄgiel, who did the same on Wednesday against Trefl GdaĆsk, we have to wait a little longer to know the others because, after Projekt Warszawa, who defeated on yesterday Grupa Azoty ZAKSA KÄdzierzyn-KoĆșle at tie break, another team is trying to reopen the series: No. 7 in r regular season Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, who defeated vice-leaders Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie after a thrilling tie break in front of the home fans (22:25, 25:16, 25:15, 18:25, 15:13).
Aluron won first set, but then suffered the reaction of the hosts who managed to take the lead without major problem by winning the next two sets. Aluron reply with a clear 18-25 in the fourth, but eventually succumbed 15-13 at tie break, despite a great performance of UroĆĄ Kovacevic, who put down 24 points through 61% in attack. However, basically he played this match alone, because behind him…nothing, as none of his teammates reached a double digit.
Something different happened on the winning side, in which Karol Butryn ended the game as top scorer with 27 points to his name through 63% in attack and 3 winning blocks, while Moritz Karlitzek also contributed with 24, 56% in attack, 6 winning blocks too and as many as 7 of his team’s 9 aces! But to make the difference was also a great performance in blocking, as Olsztyn scored 15 points from this element, against the only 3 of the rivals.
Game 4 will be played tomorrow again in Olsztyn.
In the evening, Champions League finists and No.4 in regular season Grupa Azoty ZAKSA KÄdzierzyn-KoĆșle reject the comeback of Projekt Warszawa and win in country’s capital by 1-3 (25:23, 23:25, 19:25, 20:25) to close the Series with the same result and consequently fly to the semifinals in which they’ll face Plusliga leaders Asseco Resovia.
In the only game of the series not solved at tie break, Bartosz Bednorz was the top scorer with 22 points, including 3 blocks, 1 ace and 46% in attack, while Norbert Huber also contributed with 14 and 4 winning blocks. Kevin Tillie was the most prolific player on the losing side with 15 points.
The other bad news for Warszawa is the injury of middle-blocker Piotr Nowakowski, who suffered a shoulder injury (and unfortunately his season is over).
